Marley and me …It could very well have been June and me !!
So, Marley and me is a book that I read after I had seen the movie . So there were really no surprises .Plus I also was unfazed with all the criticism around the book . I loved the book for what it portrayed ; the Topsy turvy life of a family with a rambunctious dog .If you are looking for a book on dog training or expecting the Grog
ans to be perfect pet parents ,then you will be disappointed .However if you were to just read and let Marley take over you , you will be bowled away .Marley and me is funny and heart wrenching at the same time.
“We could have bought a small yacht with what we spent for our dog and all the things he destroyed. Then again, how many yachts wait by the door all day for your return?”
When I read the above line it was dejavu for me . When I used to work my favorite part of the day was coming back home to June .And she never once failed me . She even recognised my car ‘s remote lock/unlock sound and would give a short bark which would mean “I know you are home” . I have read Marley & me over and over again and have not tired of it. I simply love this book . This is the classic failure of the law of diminishing utility …
“A dog has no use for fancy cars or big homes or designer clothes. Status symbol means nothing to him. A waterlogged stick will do just fine. A dog judges others not by their color or creed or class but by who they are inside. A dog doesn’t care if you are rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give him your heart and he will give you his.”
Truer words have never been spoken. It is in lines like these that the author’s talent shines through and sweeps one away …An excellent story teller with a penchant for sarcastic humor ,John Grogan tugs at your heartstrings with this one..If you want to know how fulfilling it is to experience a dog’s love and how heart breaking it is when they go over the rainbow bridge, then pick it up.
